Here's some photos of a flatbed trailer that I kitbashed from the kit. All parts are from one kit.
I will add some more decal details, dullcoat and do some weathering, but I think that you get the idea, that this is one of many straight-forward kitbashing possibilities. 45, 48 and 53' flatbed trailers could be made as well. This was a fun kitbash to do.
kitbash by S. Campbell. Custom Alabama Gulf decals from Rail Graphics. Striping and mics. data decals from Microscale.
I will try to post some step by step photos and comments of the above kitbash soon......
Here's a kitbash I did on the old M-E kit. I'll make a new one using the Atlas wheelset, cut apart.
Here are some very nice models built with the Rib side trailer kit by 'OC Engineer JD', who is often on the Trainboard forum.
Sharp looking covered tarp !
I received these photos from Gregg Benedict, along with this description;
The FlexiVan system was invented by New York Central in the late '50's. They were a special type of spine car with a turntable on each end for loading the "containers". The containers are
actually trailers that slide off the wheels when loading them onto a car. The cars are totally scratchbuilt, mostly out of metal to give the cars enough empty weight. - Gregg Benedict
WOW !
Check out these 'containers' that were made from S&R's Rib side trailer kits.
